¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grants support participation at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Courses of PhD students and postdoctoral scientists from the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area, which comprises countries with a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Constituent Society. (Please note that ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grants have replaced ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Youth Travel Fund Grants in 2027 courses.)

In addition, IUBMB Transcontinental Youth Travel Fund (Trans-YTF) Grants may be offered by some ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Courses as a result of support from the , for participation of scientists from outside the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area in these courses.

Information for applicants

For details of grants available to attend a particular ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Courses, and how to apply, please check the relevant course website as they become available: the value of the grants will vary between courses, and applications are made to the  individual course organizers via their course website.

Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grants and IUBMB Trans-YTF Grants are listed below for reference, but please check the website of the course you are interested in.

For ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grant applicants:

• The applicant should be up to 35 years of age, except if studies were started later, or were delayed by maternity leave (18 months per child), prolonged illness or other personal reasons.
• The applicant must be currently registered as a PhD student at an institute of higher learning in a country where there is a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Constituent Society (i.e., within the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area) or must be a postdoctoral scientist within five years of having completed a PhD thesis, working in a country where there is a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Constituent Society.
• The applicant must be a member of a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Constituent Society and must provide evidence of membership (or a recent membership application).
• The applicant must not have received a grant from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ to attend a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Course in the current or previous year, nor a bursary from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ to attend the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Congress in the current year, nor a grant to attend the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Young Scientists’ Forum (¹û¶³´«Ã½ YSF) in the current year.
• The applicant cannot be a resident of the country where the course will be held.
• Young scientists from the organizers’ laboratories are not eligible for ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grants.
• Please note that the total number of meeting awards the applicant has previously received from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ (¹û¶³´«Ã½ Congress bursary, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ YSF grant, and ¹û¶³´«Ã½ YTF award for previous ¹û¶³´«Ã½ AC) may also be taken into consideration in the nomination approval.

For IUBMB Trans-YTF Grant applicants:

• The IUBMB Trans-YTF Grant applicant must study/work and have current residence in a country that has an but does not have a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Constituent Society (i.e., be outside the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area). The applicant must have resided in their country for at least six months before applying for the grant.
• The applicant must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program or be a junior researcher within 5 years of receiving a Ph.D.; applicants who have had a gap in their training must indicate this clearly in their application materials.
• The applicant must be a member of an and must provide evidence of membership (or a recent membership application).
• The applicant must not have received a grant from ¹û¶³´«Ã½ to attend a ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Course in the current or previous year, nor a bursary to attend the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Congress in the current year, nor a grant to attend the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Young Scientists’ Forum (¹û¶³´«Ã½ YSF) in the current year.
• Awards will only be made to support travel from the applicant’s current country of residence to the country hosting the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Course.
• Young scientists from the organizers’ laboratories are not eligible for IUBMB Trans-YTF Grants.

Information for Course Organizers

As part of their application to the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Advanced Courses, organizers can apply to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ for additional funds to support participation in their course of PhD students and postdoctoral scientists from the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area. From the funds received from ¹û¶³´«Ã½, organizers decide the number and amount of the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Registration Grants for their course. For each course, recipients will receive an equal amount of support, which can be less than the registration fee and will not exceed €800 per person.

Organizers can also request in their course applications one IUBMB Trans-YTF Grant to assist participation of a young scientist from outside the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ area. These are for a maximum of 2,000 USD per person and cover the full registration fee, including accommodation and meals. The remainder of the funds can contribute towards travel costs. Please note that up to ten IUBMB Trans-YTF Grants may be funded each year across all approved courses.

Organizer should select grant candidates based on merit, and the eligibility criteria described above. The application procedure for the grants, the deadlines, the required information, and the eligibility criteria (linking to this page for reference) should be clearly explained on the course website.

The applicants should send their completed grant applications, proof of eligibility, and any other required documents (e.g., a CV and recommendation letter), to the organizer by the deadline announced.

Organizers should submit the list of selected candidates to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Treasury with sufficient time before the start of the course to allow eligibility checks and communication with candidates. Please note that the CVs of the IUBMB Trans-YTF Grant nominations will be shared with IUBMB to finalize the approval process.
